Kota Kinabalu Q Community is with all their might, mind & strength to support the ‘Spirit Day 20th October 2011’!
WEAR PURPLE ON OCTOBER 20 FOR SPIRIT DAY
Millions of Americans wear purple on Spirit Day as a sign of support for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) youth and to speak out against bullying. Spirit Day was started in 2010 by teenager Brittany McMillan as a response to the young people who had taken their own lives. Observed annually on October 20, individuals, schools, organizations, corporations, media professionals and celebrities wear purple, which symbolizes spirit on the rainbow flag.
Getting involved is easy — participants are asked to simply “go purple” on October 20 as we work to create a world in which LGBT teens are celebrated and accepted for who they are.
With all their heart, might, mind & strength; they are to be part of this meaningful event & calling all of us LGBTIQ community to stand up & support. On October 20th, 2011, let us wear purple in honor of the LGBT youth who have committed suicide in recent weeks/months/years due to homophobic abuse in their homes, schools, and communities.
PURPLE represents Spirit on the LGBTQ (rainbow) flag and that’s exactly what we’d like all of you to have with you: spirit. Please know that times will get better and that you will meet people who will love you and respect you for who you are, no matter your sexuality.
We want to thank Brittany McMillan for creating this event!
Please wear purple on October 20th. Tell your family, friends, co-workers, neighbors and schools.
