Bilit Village Homestay is located in a tiny village along the Kinabatangan River, between Sukau Village (down stream) and Batu Putih Village (up stream). It is 130 kilometres from Sandakan Town and it takes 3 hours by sealed road to reach here. The villagers are known as the Orang Sungai; they are muslim and the main economic activity is fishing in the river and a nearby oxbow lake, called Danau Bilit.
This particular homestay offers unique live-in experiences for visitors to stay with local families in their homes, eat locally cooked meals and learn about the community’s traditional lifestyle. The highlight would definitely be the boat cruise along the mighty Kinabatangan River to watchBorneo’s best wildlife such as Proboscis Monkey, Orangutan, the Bornean Pygmy Elephant, Crocodile, and some endemic birds.
